Hello, 2025

📖 2 minutes

New year, new me. No, really — I feel like a whole new human right about now.

I mentioned in my first post that I started this blog as a form of accountability. Well, something I failed to mention is that I’m one of those folks who has a wonky set of priorities. I work, and I work, and I work some more — and at some point, I forget to do the things I love (like paint). In my last post, I mentioned that work would be quieting down again. Famous last words! Work in fact picked up, and I spent the last 10 weeks of the year working 14-15 hour days. To say that I was drained would be a massive understatement.

Well, the holidays afforded me some much-needed time off. In that time, I was able to reflect (as one does at the end of the year!) on what my hopes and dreams are, and what I want to accomplish in 2025. Naturally, my art skills and habits are high on my list of priorities.

So with this, I am recommitting to daily practice habit.

I previously posted about an intended practice schedule. I love the idea of this kind of structure, but the reality is that my lifestyle can’t support this structure. With two young boys, a demanding job, and any number of things that can come up, schedules just aren’t feasible for me at this time.

Instead of structure, I’m creating plans. I’m noting the areas where my skills are weak, choosing priority focus areas, and setting intentions for how to invest my energy (or lack thereof). Ultimately, I’m aiming to practice art in some form every day.

I’m off to a great start so far, with daily practice in the first week of the year. I am so excited and energized about this plan, and will be sharing more info about what I’m working on now in the coming days!
