Well, my week spent camping with my family FLEW by, and now we’re home! I’m pleased to report that I met my goal; I painted every day of my trip, completing almost one full painting each day (except for driving days). I’m sharing my paintings below, and I am writing up a separate post with my thoughts on my sketch kit!
Paintings

This is a view of the lake, from the hill next to our cabin. The days were warm but sometimes overcast — so the lake shimmered with silver and gray.

The hill next to our cabin. This, I painted from the second-story back porch. I was inspired by the golden hour, that just kissed the tops of the trees as the sun set behind the hill, casting all else into shadow. It was so much fun to race the sun but capture the light!

Another tree captured from the second-story back porch. I needed a smaller, quick sketch after a challenging day with my 2 young boys, and had a great time unwinding with this tree!

This was the sketch of a gorgeous sunset over the lake. It’s impossible to capture the beauty of a good sunset in any medium, and this was no different. The pastel wash of color that touched everything was breathtaking! I took to the sketch and first wash quickly while the sunset was underway, but a sudden and unexpected windstorm blew in. The wind was quite strong, and I worried about rain, so I had to pack up my kit (and all the other things that had collected on the porch in the good weather!) and head inside for the night. This was finished from a photo the next morning!

The fields surrounding our camp were absolutely filled with Everlasting Peas. They were so stunning — I couldn’t get enough of them! I have hundreds of photos to prove it :). I haven’t painted too many florals in my time, so this was a fun challenge!
I have a couple more sketches that I started along the way but didn’t have an opportunity to finish — so will hopefully give those a go from home later this week.
